Open Discussion: Tufts Color Run & Cultural Appropriation

31 Oct

Last Sunday, Tufts’ Theta Chi hosted a Tufts version of the Color Run event on campus, called Tufts Color Run (name changed to Tufts Prism Run just prior to the event), which was co-sponsored by Alpha Phi, LCS and TASA. This event has sparked controversy and discussion regarding the cultural appropriation of the Hindu religious festival, Holi. While some argue that the event is charitable and fun, others say that Holi has been used in a way that takes an important Hindu festival and rids it of its religious and cultural value.

Join us on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 on 9pm (Location TBA) as we deconstruct the Tufts Color Run, the recent Op-Ed in the Daily, and discuss religious and cultural appropriation in a broader context.

Co-sponsored by the Tufts Hindu Students Council (HSC) and the Asian American Alliance (AAA).
