Hey everybody, here are some upcoming events that you all should consider going to! (These are not necessarily AAA events, but they are related either because they are Asian American events or have to do with social justice.)

Shattered Hopes: Obama’s Failure to Broker Israeli Palestinian Peace

A book talk and discussion with Josh Ruebner, National Advocacy Director of the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and author of “Shattered Hopes: Obama’s Failure to Broker Israeli-Palestinian Peace.” Presented by Tufts Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP).

“Interference: When Masculinity and Being Gay Collide,” presented by Wade Davis
Date: Tuesday, October 1, 2013
Distler Performance Hall
Wade Davis, an openly gay, former NFL player, activist, writer, and speaker will be speaking about his personal story and the larger challenge faced by the LGBT community. This event is co-sponsored by the Social Justice Leadership Initiative and the Programming Board.

GIM for a new Institute for Global Leadership (IGL) sponsored club that emphasizes critical analysis, research and participation in international women’s issues.

The Tufts 1st Generation College Student Council is a new group on Tufts and is looking for support from allies and first generation college students to join the council or even lend a hand.

Open Discussions about the Draft Report of the Tufts Council of Diversity
Date: Wednesday, October 9, 2013
Time: 2:30pm-3:30pm
Location: 51 Winthrop Street
What: The Diversity Report draft is out for everyone to read and there will be an open discussion with President Monaco and others for Tufts students to voice their opinions about it. This concerns ALL STUDENTS (and the entire Tufts community) and we HIGHLY ENCOURAGE everyone to at least scan through the report and try to participate in this conversation.

Location: The Berklee Performance Center
What: Kollaboration Boston will be holding the biggest citywide Asian American talent show for the third year.

UTOPIA: Party Cruise
Date: Saturday, October 12, 2013
Time: 8pm-10pm (7pm boarding)
Location: World Trade Center Pier
What: An intercollegiate party cruise hosted by MITCSC, Harvard CSA, BU CSA, BC CSA, Wellesley ASU, Brandeis CCC, Tufts AAA, Northeastern CSA. *We will give more information about how to get the tickets through us soon.

Tufts Asian American Center 30th Anniversary Celebration
Date: Sunday, October 13, 2013
Time: 12pm-3pm (reception desk opens at 11:30am)
Location: Aidekman Arts Center
What: This event will feature student exhibits and performances. All students, alumni and faculty are welcomed! Lunch is provided.

Late Night Study at the Asian American Center
Date: Every Wednesday
Time: 8pm-11pm
Location: Asian American Center (aka Start House)
What: Go hang out (or do work silently) at the house! They will have snacks and drinks.

E-board Elections

Just as we said in the general interest meeting tonight, we are looking for 2 Voices Literary Magazine Co-Chairs and 2-3 Freshman Representatives. If you are interested in any of these positions, here is what you have to do:

1) Email with your name and position you are running for.

2) Show up at the elections and give a short speech about why you want to join AAA and why we should choose you! The elections will be held on September 22 (Sunday) 8pm in Eaton 207.

You can also get involved with AAA by joining the community service committee, submitting to the Voices magazine or coming to our monthly open meetings!
